Pantone Color of the Year 2026

Pantone Color of the Year 2026

Pantone has announced the Colour of the Year 2026: 11-4201 Cloud Dancer.
At first, choosing a white as Colour of the Year may seem unusual, yet the reasoning behind the Pantone Color Institute’s decision is both meaningful and profound.

In an increasingly noisy and fast-paced world, white represents the search for a mental and physical space in which to rediscover calm and serenity. By encouraging focus, it also clears the way for ideas and creativity to flourish.

From the official presentation:

"Similar to a blank canvas, Cloud Dancer signifies our desire for a fresh start. Peeling away layers of outmoded thinking, we open the door to new approaches. Cloud Dancer quiets the mind, encouraging true relaxation and focus that allows the mind to wander, and creativity to breathe, making room for innovation."

And specifically, its use in apparel:

"A key structural color whose versatility provides scaRolding for the color spectrum, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer supports rather than shouts presenting a contrast in color that allows others to shine. A discrete white with an understated presence, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer acts as a conscious statement of simplification whether worn in a classic button-down, Tshirt, jeans and activewear, or in suiting, relaxed loose fit pants and dresses or outerwear. Infused with a feeling of billowy softness that comes through in spongy, puRy silhouettes, oversized padding and rounded shapes, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer cocoons and envelopes, promoting relaxation and well-being. Textures ranging from down and foam filled cloth, fluRy, hairy furs, plush and lofty wools gently swaddle. At the same time with its aerated and vaporized appearance PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer lends itself equally to diaphanous and floaty chiRons and fluid jersey fabrics that are easy to wear and move in, flowing from day to night, season to season."

Pantone's suggested colour palettes

In general, white has the ability to adapt, harmonise or create contrast with other colours. On Pantone’s website, seven colour palettes are suggested for incorporating PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer, ranging from powdered pastels to tropic tonalities.

Two colour palettes for childrenswear

When I saw PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer, I immediately thought about how I could use it in my own work, and I imagined it within two palettes that evoke different moods.

For me, white is perfect as a base for some of the colours I use most often: luminous pastels. Against a white background, they stand out beautifully and create a fresh, pleasant effect that I find particularly well suited to children’s products.

In addition, I want to explore another use of white, within a very delicate palette featuring powder pink tones. In this case, I’d like to use white on a coloured background, which is quite unusual for me.

If you like those palettes, they are available, with all codes, for free download in the archive reserved to newsletter's subscribers.
